(Community Water Supply and Sanitation Systems in Peri-Urban and Low income Settlements of Dar es Salaam)

The Tanzania Government experiences water shortage in the City of Dar Es Salaam and the most affected people are those living in the peri-urban and low income settlements due to frequent outbreak of related diseases. The Government of Tanzania requested the Government of Belgium and European Union through water facilities initiative to help intervene to correct this situation and finally funds were secured through Belgium Government and ACP-EU water facility

The Government of Belgium and the European Community (EC), through the Belgian Technical Cooperation (BTC) and in collaboration with the Government of Tanzania through Ministry of Water and Irrigation and three Municipalities of Dar es Salaam are now supporting the implementation of five years (2008 – 2013) Water and Sanitation Project.

The specific agreement for this project was signed by the Government of Tanzania and the Government of Belgium in August 2005. The contract between the Belgian Technical cooperation and the European Commission was signed in December 2007.
